Asia Miles occasionally offers transfer bonuses from selected banks in Singapore. Some recent examples include:
- Sept 2017: 18% bonus for HSBC transfers, no cap
- Nov 2017: 25% bonus for Maybank transfers, no cap
- May 2018: 20% bonus for UOB transfers, no cap
- Nov 2018: 10% bonus for DBS transfers, capped at 2,000 miles
Well, another promotion has just been launched that covers all the banks in Singapore…
15% transfer promo for all banks until 28 Jan 2019
From now till 28 January 2019, Asia Miles members who convert points from eligible credit cards will earn an extra 15% miles, capped at 10,000 bonus miles. This cap means you’d max out the promotion by transferring the equivalent of 66,667 base miles.
The eligible banks in Singapore include:
- BOC
- Citibank
- DBS
- HSBC
- Maybank
- UOB
In other words, every bank which partners with Asia Miles (except for American Express-issued AMEX cards) is eligible for this promotion.ย Bonus miles will be credited to your account within 6-8 weeks after the end of the promotion period (i.e. 28 Jan 2019). Read the terms and conditions of the promotion here.
Asia Miles underwent a devaluation earlier this year, where award prices for premium cabins increased by roughly 10-20%. Therefore, a 15% transfer bonus can help to offset some of the lost value. For me, the best way of using Asia Miles is for multi-carrier awards as these can offer lower costs and more flexibility than KrisFlyer RTW awards.
Honestly this is pointless. Just a warning to all, ever since the revamp of their program, the seat availabilities on Cathay are very hard to come back. This is even so on a very empty flight, not even a single standard seat.
If you find a Cathay seat on BA, it turn out to be a tailored on CX.
Personally, I am disappointed with CX on how they lure you to transfer points with bonus but making you ultra difficult to redeem.
which destinations do u find hard to redeem?
The long hauls
I have recently successfully redeemed an all biz-class ticket using the multi-carrier chart for 185k for a total travelled miles of ~25,000. I flew to FUK (CX/KA), HEL (AY), JFK (AY), BCN (AA) and back to SIN via QR Q-Suites. I admit that it’s not easy to find the route availability, but the opportunity for redemption does exist.
Looks like yours is ok for non cx long haul routing.
Regretted my 100k + mile transfer from my Citi cards to Krisflyer earlier this year. Citi miles hold a special premium to me because of transfer parters. Iโm hungering to try other airlineโs business class. This looks like a decent promo :p
