Singapore Airlines extends PPS Club Advance Upgrade Rewards

PPS Club members with unused Advance Upgrade Rewards will receive an automatic extension till 31 December 2024.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Singapore Airlines has been extending PPS Club and KrisFlyer Elite status and rewards, as well as KrisFlyer mile validity.

With the reopening of borders and scrapping of travel restrictions, these initiatives have been winding down. The final KrisFlyer miles reprieve lapsed on 30 June 2023, and miles have reverted to their pre-COVID three-year expiry once again.

However, SIA has now announced a further extension to Advance Upgrade Rewards for PPS Club members.

PPS Advance Upgrade Rewards extended till 31 December 2024

Per an update to the SIA Renewal Support page, PPS Club members with expiring Advance Upgrade Rewards will receive an automatic extension till 31 December 2024.

Advance Upgrade Rewards previously extended till 31 December 2023 or expiring in 2024 will be further extended till 31 December 2024.

This extension will be processed automatically, and no action is required on your part.

To check if they have expiring Advance Upgrade Rewards, PPS members can login to their KrisFlyer account on singaporeair.com or the SingaporeAir mobile app and navigate to Account Summary > PPS Rewards. Rewards and their respective expiry dates will be listed under “Manage rewards”.

Extensions will be completed by 31 December 2023, so don’t panic if you don’t see an updated expiry date straight away!

Advance Upgrade Rewards may be used on flights departing after 31 December 2024, so long as the Reward is applied on or before 31 December 2024.

How do Advance Upgrade Rewards work?

As a reminder, PPS Club members earn Advance Upgrade Rewards when they accrue 60,000, 75,000 or 100,000 PPS Value in a membership year.

🏆 PPS Rewards
PPS Value PPS Reward
25,000: Qualify/Requalify for PPS Club
30,000 Double KrisFlyer miles
40,000 50,000 KrisFlyer Miles Redemption Discount
50,000: Qualify/Requalify for Solitaire PPS Club
60,000 Advance Upgrade
75,000 Advance Upgrade
100,000 Advance Upgrade

This Reward is valid for a one-cabin upgrade on a single flight segment. This upgrade can be used by the principal member or his/her redemption nominee to upgrade from:

  • Economy ⮞ Premium Economy
  • Economy ⮞ Business (where Premium Economy is not available)
  • Premium Economy ⮞ Business
  • Business ⮞ First
Upgrade your Premium Economy ticket to Business Class (or Economy to Business Class, where Premium Economy isn’t offered)

Upgrades are subject to availability at the point when the Reward is applied, and valid for commercial bookings (not award tickets) on flights operated and marketed by Singapore Airlines in the following fare classes:

  Eligible Ineligible
Economy Standard: M, H, W
Flexi: Y, B, E
Lite: V, K
Value: Q, N
Premium Economy Standard: L, P
Flexi: S, T
Lite: R
Business Standard: U
Flexi: Z, C, J
Lite: D

This unfortunately excludes the discounted Lite buckets, and the Value bucket for Economy.

As the Reward is only valid for a single cabin upgrade, those travelling on an Economy Class ticket will ideally want to use it on a flight without a Premium Economy Class cabin so they can jump from Economy to Business Class. That would mean the following aircraft:

I suppose you could also book regional flights on long-haul A350-900s where the Premium Economy cabin isn’t sold (e.g. Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok), but that seems like a waste of this Reward.

Conclusion

Singapore Airlines will extend the validity of all outstanding Advance Upgrade Rewards for PPS Club members till 31 December 2024. This provides further breathing room, and remember- you only need to apply the Reward by 31 December 2024; the actual travel date can be beyond that.

Unfortunately, we’re not seeing any corresponding extension for the Short-haul Advance Upgrade or Premium Economy Advance Upgrade Rewards issued under the KrisFlyer Milestone Rewards programme, so those will still need to be used by 31 December 2023.
