American Express has launched a new welcome offer for the AMEX Platinum Charge, which awards 150,000 bonus MR points (equivalent to 93,750 miles) and S$100 cashback with a minimum spend of S$8,000.
This is open to both new and existing AMEX cardholders, so you’ll be eligible even if you currently hold another principal AMEX card.
While this is the largest MR points offer we’ve seen in recent history (worth 100,000 airline miles once the base points have been factored in), it’s worth mentioning that the AMEX Platinum Charge has recently nerfed several benefits, including the Comoclub birthday perks, Platinum Statement Credits and lounge access for the first supplementary cardholder.
Therefore, for those still considering an application, timing it around a major welcome offer is even more crucial to recovering the S$1,744 annual fee—and hopefully more — in the first membership year.

This welcome offer is available to anyone who hasn’t cancelled a principal AMEX Platinum Charge in the past 24 months. You are still eligible even if you hold another principal AMEX card at the moment, including the AMEX Platinum Credit Card.
However, since the offer is the same for new-to-AMEX and existing AMEX customers, those who meet the new-to-AMEX definition should not be applying for the AMEX Platinum Charge as their first American Express card. Instead, get approved for a different card first, fulfill the welcome offer, then apply for the AMEX Platinum Charge.
Here’s a reminder of the new-to-AMEX offers on other AMEX cards.

37,600 bonus miles + S$50 cashback | S$2,000 in 90 days |
Customers who apply for an AMEX Platinum Charge and receive approval from 17 February to 28 May 2025 will receive:
- 150,000 bonus MR points
- S$100 cashback
A minimum spend of S$8,000 within 90 days of approval is required, which will earn a further base reward of 10,000 MR points.
What counts as qualifying spend?
Qualifying spend refers to all online and offline retail purchases, whether in Singapore dollars or foreign currency.
It excludes the following transactions:
❌ Qualifying Spend Exclusions |
a) Charges processed and billed prior to the Enrolment Date or charges prepaid on any Card Account prior to the first billing statement for that Card Account following the Enrolment Date; |
For the avoidance of doubt, CardUp, private and non-profit hospital bills, charitable donations, education, and anything else not explicitly stated in the exclusion list will count as eligible spend. While American Express added charitable donations and education to its exclusions list on 1 October 2023, an exception was carved out for the AMEX Platinum Charge.
If you plan to use CardUp to meet the minimum spend, do note that there are certain restrictions on AMEX payments.
Spending by both principal and supplementary cardholders will be combined when determining whether the minimum spend threshold has been met.
When will bonus MR points be credited?
All gifts will be awarded within 10 weeks of meeting the spend threshold.
Any questions about the crediting of bonus points should be directed to American Express.

What can you do with Membership Rewards points?
AMEX Platinum Charge cardholders can convert MR points to airline miles or hotel points at the following rates:
Do note that AMEX Platinum Charge cardholders receive a preferential conversion rate of 400 points = 250 airline miles, compared to regular cardholders who get 450 points = 250 airline miles.
Therefore, cardholders who spend S$8,000 will receive a total of 100,000 airline miles (once base and bonus MR points are factored in). For context, it will cost you 75,000 miles to redeem a one-way Business Class award ticket on EVA Air between Singapore and Los Angeles.
Membership Rewards points do not expire, and all conversions are free of charge.

It’s important to highlight that changes were made to these statement credits at the start of 2025 which make them harder to fully utilise. I’d strongly encourage you to read this article in detail to understand the implications.

The latest AMEX Platinum Charge welcome offer gives new cardholders 150,000 bonus MR points and S$100 cashback with a minimum spend of S$8,000.
The offer is the same regardless of whether you’re a new-to-AMEX or existing AMEX customer, so the former should get approved for a different AMEX card first before applying for this one, in order to take advantage of two welcome offers.
As the AMEX Platinum Charge is no small investment, you need to carefully weigh the cost and benefits before you apply. In the past I’d say it was almost a no-brainer to get, but with the recent nerfs and cutbacks, the value is more skewed towards the first year only, thanks to the welcome bonus.
If I am not mistaken, the currently running promotion for the CC card (200$ back) is available to both new and existing customers too, instead of just new as stated in this article.
My bet is Amex is giving an easy way for current customers to reposition themselves following recent changes in the platinum family (instead of risking losing them for other banks completely).
yes that’s correct. have removed plat cc to avoid confusion
Just cancelled it last week after holding it for 8years.
See you in 2 years 😉
I was at the Tiffin Room late January and the bill was > $500. Food and service met expectations. Octopus was excellent. Amex local dining credit still not awarded almost a month later. I registered for the credits in January and checked the Amex app before paying to ensure I was enrolled for the dining credit and that Tiffin Room was eligible. Took pictures of the screens. Almost a month later, no credit. Called and CSO said the Tiffin Room bill was charged to a Raffles Hotel card machine. Asked whether I paid at the hotel (where? check-out counter?) or… Read more »

I’m willing to renew if they offer me the 150000pts
Is using CardUp for income tax payments eligible for qualifying spend?
I would like to know what is the minimum credit rating required to apply for this card? Does AMEX GT from US also have such an offer?
Hi Aaron, does supplementary card spending count towards the minimum spend of $8,000?
Thanks,
Eric
Does anyone know whether using an AMEX card to pay for a car rental overseas is excluded from qualifying spend
