This month, we’re taking part in a very exciting miles vs cashback campaign. You can read the full details here, but to summarize:

  • Each miles card you apply for via this landing page earns 1 point for Team Air Miles
  • The team with the most points at the end of 31 January wins, and every member on that team gets an additional $20-50 hongbao per application, depending on the total number of team applications
  • Like and reply to this Facebook post with why “miles are better than cashback”, tag three friends, and the top 3 answers from the winning team win $888 each!

All clear? Ok, what’s new this month:

  • The OCBC Titanium Rewards is now available for application. Get $100 cashback when you apply through SingSaver

Here’s the full T&C for all offers.

AMEX KrisFlyer Blue$150$150
AMEX KrisFlyer Ascend$150$150

Apply for the KrisFlyer Blue and KrisFlyer Ascend here

SingSaver has continued its $150 sign up gift for the KrisFlyer AMEX cobrand cards for January. Can’t figure out which card is right for you? Have a read of our comparison article of the KrisFlyer Blue versus KrisFlyer Ascend.

Here’s the how the KrisFlyer Blue and Ascend stack up in terms of miles earning power:

 KrisFlyer BlueKrisFlyer Ascend
Local Spending1.1 mpd1.2 mpd
Overseas Spending2.0 mpd for June and December
Bonus for Grab (capped at $200 per month)3.1 mpd3.2 mpd
Singapore Airlines/Silk Air tickets bought online2.0 mpd2.0 mpd

The earn rates may not be the highest in the market, but their sign up bonuses certainly are. New customers to the KrisFlyer Blue can spend $6,000 to get 26,600 miles:

  • 5,000 bonus miles on the first spend
  • 7,500 miles with $3,000 spend in first 3 months, 7,500 miles with $3,000 spend in months 4-6
  • 6,600 base miles on the total $6,000 spent

The KrisFlyer Ascend is offering a spend $12,000 get 49,400 miles offer which is broken down as follows:

  • 5,000 bonus miles on the first spend
  • 15,000 miles with $6,000 spend in first 3 months, 15,000 miles with $6,000 spend in months 4-6
  • 14,400 base miles on the total $12,000 spend

I’d recommend getting these cards when you know you have big ticket spending coming up that will allow you to hit the threshold. You can read my analysis of these new sign up bonuses here.

Do remember that the KrisFlyer Ascend also comes with Hilton Silver status and a complimentary night hotel stay voucher, four SATS/Plaza Premium lounge access vouchers and a fast track offer for KrisFlyer Elite Gold.

You can only apply for either the Blue or the Ascend card. The first year annual fee is waived for the Blue but not the Ascend (S$337.05 per year). This SingSaver promotion is available for applications submitted by 31 January 2019.

Choosing to use the SingPass MyInfo feature during application (which connects to your SingPass account to auto-populate some fields) will get you a bonus $20 Capitavoucher. This is fulfilled by AMEX, not SingSaver, and the full terms and conditions for the MyInfo promotion can be found here.

Citi PremierMiles Visa & Citi Rewards Visa

 New-to-BankExisting Customer
Citi Rewards Visa$200 NTUC, Grab or Taka vouchers$30 NTUC vouchers
Citi PremierMiles Visa$200 NTUC, Grab or Taka vouchers$30 NTUC vouchers

Apply for the Citibank PremierMiles and Rewards card here

The Citi PremierMiles Visa earns 1.2 mpd locally and 2.0 mpd overseas, with up to 7 mpd on Expedia and 10 mpd on Kaligo. The card also comes with two complimentary lounge visits a year via Priority Pass (this will be changed to DragonPass in the future)

There’s currently an ongoing sign up bonus for the Citi PremierMiles card, where you get 30,000 miles in total with paying the annual fee and spending a minimum of $7,500 within the first 3 months. You’re still eligible for this bonus if you sign up via SingSaver.

The Citi Rewards card continues to be the go-to card for online and offline shopping, where you’re buying bags, shoes or clothes, or shopping at department stores. Earn 10X points (4 mpd) on the first $1,000 of spending each calendar month.

Citibank points don’t pool, but the good news is they have the widest selection of partner airlines in Singapore, with 12 programs to choose from. Two useful programs they partner with are Etihad Guest and British Airways Avios– refer to the links for some ideas how to spend those points.

New-to-bank customers get $200 of NTUC, Grab or Taka vouchers when they’re successfully approved for a Citibank card. Existing customers get $30. The first year annual fee is waived on both cards (but you will need to pay the annual fee on the PremierMiles Visa if you want to get the 30,000 mile bonus), and this promotion is available for applications submitted by 31 January 2019.

OCBC Titanium Rewards

 New-to-BankExisting Customer
OCBC Titanium Rewards$100 cashback, no spending requiredN/A

Apply for the OCBC Titanium Rewards card here

The OCBC Titanium Rewards card is now available for application through SingSaver. This is a great card to have, thanks in no small part to the frequent promotions they run. 12 mpd on IKEA and Zalora, 12 mpd on public transport, 8 mpd on Emirates,  and 6 mpd on Mileslife are some of the recent ones that come to mind.

Even when there’s no ongoing promotion, the Titanium Rewards can be your go-to card for shopping on clothes, shoes, bags, electronics and department stores. You’ll earn 4 mpd on these categories, for up to $12,000 of spending per membership year. Exhausted the cap on one Titanium Rewards card? Simply apply for the other color card to get a fresh $12,000 cap!

Customers who apply through SingSaver get $100 cashback upon approval, with no spending required. However, you should note that applying directly through OCBC gets you $88 upon approval, plus $80 more when you spend $800 within the first month of getting your card. That’s obviously a better haul, if you’re willing to spend $800.

The first year annual fee is waived, and this promotion is available for applications submitted by 31 January 2019.

UOB PRVI Miles

 New-to-BankExisting Cardholder
UOB PRVI Miles VisaS$50S$50

Apply for the UOB PRVI Miles card here

The UOB PRVI Miles is a general spending workhorse, earning 1.4/2.4 mpd for local/overseas spending without any cap or minimum spend requirement. Those earning rates may be below the 1.5/3.0 mpd being offered by the BOC Elite Miles World Mastercard, but I can guarantee you you’ll get your UOB PRVI Miles card faster than the BOC.

You can also earn 6 mpd for hotel and selected airline bookings made on Expedia. If you opt for the PRVI Miles AMEX, spending $50,000 in a membership year will get you 20,000 loyalty miles, and you can redeem up to 8 complimentary airport transfers per year. Note that only the UOB PRVI Miles Visa is available for application under the Miles vs Cashback campaign.

The first year annual fee is waived, and whether you’re an existing or new UOB customer, SingSaver is giving $50 of cash to successful applicants. This promotion is available for applications submitted by 31 January 2019.

Hi Aaron, is 12mpd on OCBC titanium card still available or was it till 19 December 2018? UOB privi card still has an ongoing promotion of $100 for first 1000 applicants between 1 to 23 January, as mentioned on the website. You may wish to correct it in your post. I’m planning to take the ocbc titanium Rewards, spend $800 and rope in $168 and use the rest for 12mpd kind of expense. For further shopping (after spending $800 on OCBC titanium), which is better – citi Premier miles or UOB privy? Amex I don’t prefer at this point because… Read more »

Hi Aaron, HSBC VI is not included any more?

ST

How many times can you apply for and cancel the Amex krisflyer card before you get blacklisted? I haven’t dared to do it, but am just wondering why the SingSaver rewards are so generous even for existing customers.
