Back in July, American Express launched a welcome offer of up to 131,000 bonus MR points for the AMEX Platinum Charge.
The offer has now been further enhanced with the addition of a S$100 eCapitaVoucher, which is offered to both new-to-AMEX and existing AMEX cardholders. All other terms including minimum spend remain the same.

120,000 bonus MR points + S$100 eCV |
Min. Spend | S$8,000 spend in 60 days |
By way of recap, new-to-AMEX and existing AMEX customers can earn 131,000 bonus MR points and 120,000 bonus MR points respectively with a minimum spend of S$8,000 in the first 60 days.
If you’re an existing AMEX customer, then I’d consider this to be the strongest welcome offer we’ve ever seen (there was a 127,500 bonus MR points offer from April-May 2024, but a S$100 eCapitaVoucher is worth more than 7,500 MR points in my mind).
🎁 Don’t forget MGM! |
If you apply via the American Express MGM programme, you can get up to S$100 extra cashback on top of the public bonuses (though you won’t get the S$100 eCapitaVoucher. Refer to this post for more details. |
This promotion is part of American Express’ 30 Million Miles Campaign, which offers a limited-time upsize of welcome offers for the AMEX Platinum Charge, AMEX KrisFlyer Ascend and AMEX KrisFlyer Credit Card until the miles pool is exhausted. An additional 9.9 million miles was topped up to the pool recently, so there’s still time to take advantage of the offers.
❓ What happens when the miles pool runs dry? |
In case you’re concerned about what happens when the 30,000,000 miles run out, don’t worry. The campaign doesn’t literally end the moment the miles pool is exhausted. That’s just a signal that it’s time to wrap up the campaign, and I’ll update this article accordingly to reflect the new end date. No update means the campaign is stil live! In other words, anyone who submits an application during the promotion period will be eligible for the upsized welcome offer, even if the pool runs out before approval. |

American Express is offering two different sign-up offers for the AMEX Platinum Charge, depending on whether you count as a new-to-AMEX or existing AMEX customer.
New-to-AMEX
❓ Definition |
New-to-AMEX customers are defined as those who:
There is no “timeout period” for a customer with a recently-cancelled card to be considered new (provided the cancelled card is not a principal AMEX Platinum Charge). However, all approvals are subject to internal review. The AMEX Platinum Charge is a distinct product from the AMEX Platinum Credit Card and AMEX Platinum Reserve. |
New-to-AMEX customers who apply for an AMEX Platinum Charge and receive approval from 6-30 September 2024 will receive:
- 40,000 bonus MR points + S$100 eCV for paying the S$1,744 annual fee
- 91,000 bonus MR points spending S$8,000 within the first 60 days of approval
- 10,000 base MR points (based on S$8,000 spend @ 2 MR points per S$1.60)
All in all, that’s 141,000 MR points & a S$100 eCV for S$8,000 of spend.

What counts as qualifying spend?
Qualifying spend refers to all online and offline retail purchases, whether in Singapore dollars or foreign currency.
It excludes the following transactions:
❌ Qualifying Spend Exclusions |
a) Charges processed and billed prior to the Enrolment Date or charges prepaid on any Card Account prior to the first billing statement for that Card Account following the Enrolment Date; |
For the avoidance of doubt, CardUp, private and non-profit hospital bills, charitable donations, education, and anything else not explicitly stated in the exclusion list will count as eligible spend. While American Express added charitable donations and education to its exclusions list on 1 October 2023, an exception was carved out for the AMEX Platinum Charge.
If you plan to use CardUp to meet the minimum spend, do note that there are certain restrictions on AMEX payments. However, there’s also a ongoing offer that reduces the admin fee to as low as 1.8%, which is a great way to meet the minimum spend for the welcome offer.
CardUp x AMEX promo: Buy miles from 1.36 cents, meet welcome offer minimum spend
Spending by both principal and supplementary cardholders will be combined when determining whether the minimum spend threshold has been met.
When will bonus MR points be credited?
Bonus MR points and the S$100 eCV for paying the annual fee will be awarded within 12 weeks of the date the annual fee is paid.
Bonus MR points for meeting the minimum qualifying spend will be awarded within 10 weeks of meeting the spend threshold.
Any questions about the crediting of bonus points should be directed to American Express.

Membership Rewards points do not expire, and all conversions are free of charge.

Guide: AMEX Platinum Charge annual S$1,354 statement credits
Because your first membership year will overlap with two calendar years, you can enjoy two sets of credits in your first membership year (except the entertainment credits, which are disbursed on a monthly basis), regardless of whether you choose to renew your card from the second year onwards.
This creates what I call the “first year sweet spot”, where the value you get is significantly more than the annual fee. To understand this better, check out the guide below (the section on the welcome bonus will be out of date, but all the other information is otherwise current).
In order to get maximum value, be sure to share the AMEX Platinum Charge’s benefits with friends and family. Two supplementary cards are free for life, and enjoy perks such as Como C5 membership, complimentary lounge access, hotel elite status, Tower Club access and AMEX Love Dining & Chillax.
Also be sure to sign up for an A/C card to enjoy additional AMEX offers, which can save you money or earn extra MR points.

The latest AMEX Platinum Charge welcome offer adds a S$100 eCapitaVoucher to the 120,000/131,000 bonus MR points for existing/new-to-AMEX customers. It’s an especially great offer for existing AMEX customers, since the acquisition bonus is usually in the five digit range.
An AMEX Platinum Charge is no small investment, so be sure to weigh the cost and benefits carefully before you apply!
If one signs up now and cancels after one year, will they be able to use the statement credits for 2025? Or rather, will Amex allow the customer to cancel even if they have used statement credits for both calendar years (2024/2025)?
short answer: you can use 2 calendar years statement credit in your first membership year.
long answer: https://milelion.com/2023/07/30/psa-how-statement-credit-usage-affects-amex-platinum-charge-cancellations/
if an existing Amex charge card holder renews the card, will he be eligible for the existing customer offer?
Amex way of treating their existing card holder is abysmal, I would assume that you will not be eligible for it
the link isn’t working 🙁 tried to apply
which link are you referring to?
https://www.americanexpress.com/sg/campaigns/milelion.html#platcharge
works for me.
I wish they give out Ritz Carlton staycay once more.. it’s much more valuable than $100 voucher
Hi can i ask, if i spend on grand cru and get the 400$ credit back, does it count $600 towards my 8k spend? Or will amex reduce the amount counted due to the statement credit being returned?
Hello, if I were to apply now and the pool runs out say by end-Sep, does this mean that I will only get 98k MR points instead of the guaranteed 141k MR points? Assuming I hit the qualifying spend of 8k within 2 months
if the pool is dry, i will update this article. anyone who applies before that will get their miles as shown in this post
Do you recommend this card ? I currently have it but have not activated it yet. Am still thinking hard if I even use the perks … and don’t want to force myself to buy something worth 8k within 2 mths..
