Member-only discounts at hotel restaurants have become a common sight these days, with loyalty programmes using them to engage with members outside of stays.
Hilton Honors offers up to 25% off dining, while IHG One Rewards gives its members a flat 20% discount. Marriott Bonvoy used to offer a similar promotion until July 2022, and World of Hyatt runs discounts from time to time. Since these programmes are free to join, it’s essentially a discount to the general public (and makes Accor’s paid membership look stingy by comparison!)
I Prefer has now become the latest programme to launch a similar benefit, with members enjoying up to 20% off the bill for the rest of 2026.
I Prefer Hotels offering up to 20% off hotel dining
From now to 31 December 2026, I Prefer members will enjoy up to 20% off dining at participating venues, as well as privileges such as complimentary corkage.

The discount is valid a maximum of 5-8 guests per table, depending on venue. Additional restrictions are listed below.

How useful is this discount?
While I’ll never badmouth a discount, it’s worth noting that you could potentially save even more at these venues through other programmes like Eatigo or Love Dining.

However, AMEX Love Dining requires at least an AMEX Platinum Card, which carries a S$327 annual fee. Eatigo often requires diners to visit during off-peak timings to secure the maximum possible discount.
And while comparable discounts are available to cardholders from certain banks (e.g. DBS and HSBC offer 15-20% off dining at Fullerton Hotel and Fullerton Bay Hotel), those cards might not necessarily offer the most miles.
So the way I see it, the main advantage of the I Prefer dining discount is its flexibility: you’re not restricted to off-peak dining hours, and you can pay with any card you prefer. Obviously I wouldn’t trade that for a 50% discount, but otherwise…
What card to use for hotel dining?
The best card to use for hotel dining depends on whether the venue codes as a hotel or a restaurant.
It’s hard to say for certain, so taking a few extra minutes to check the MCC could very well save you from a costly mistake.

If you don’t have the time to check, then using a general purpose 4 mpd card like the UOB Preferred Visa or UOB Visa Signature would be the safest option (though ideally I’d prefer to save the bonus cap for other types of transactions).

While the dining discount is the same for all I Prefer members regardless of tier, it’s worth a reminder that Mastercard customers are eligible for a fast-track up to Titanium status, the highest tier in the programme.

Cardmembers must complete one qualifying stay before 31 March 2027 to receive their status upgrade. Once the stay is completed, status will be upgraded and remain valid for one year.
Do note that there is no qualifying stay requirement for Gold and Standard Mastercard cardholders as they receive Silver status anyway, the lowest tier in the I Prefer programme.
If you have a World Elite Mastercard, you’ll receive an extra 25,000 points after completing your first booking. I Prefer reward nights start from 15,000 points, or you can redeem them for cash certificates at a value of 1 point = 0.2 US cents (so 25,000 points would be worth US$50).

However, you should also make a point of checking whether the venue also participates in Love Dining or Eatigo, as the discount could potentially be better.
